Mercedes Schlapp's position in the role of White House Strategic Communications Advisor isn't simple. As White House's Strategic Communications Advisor, Schlapp is faced with multiple challenges. It was in March that she gained a sudden burst attention, when it became known that her name would be a potential candidate to fill in Hope Hicks's role as director of communication. Mercedes Schlapp isn't in a good position as White House strategist communications advisor. The White House strategist's adviser to communications must contend various legal battles that could disrupt the messaging strategy of the administration, as well as Cabinet secretaries that are embroiled in scandals of their own. Schlapp is able to remain focused and on task, working with White House teams in political issues, legislative affairs, and policy, in addition to the larger communications team. Her focus so far is on topics like the safety of schools, opioids, infrastructure, and trade. The current position she holds doesn't require any contact with journalists. In March, she received a flurry of interest, after it was widely known that Schlapp was the next candidate to take over Hope Hicks's post as director of communication. The fighting has been nasty. Schlapp's allies began fighting with Tony Sayegh on the news. Schlapp called Sayegh after the Washington Examiner printed a bad story on his character.
